Chipmaker Texas Instruments has released a concept device that it says will be a universal wireless translator. The “Wireless Any Network Digital Assistant” will be one device that can speak 802.11 (WiFi), Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS.
The idea is that while you are sitting next to your desk, you can take advantage of the high speed bluetooth connection, and as you move further away, you move to 802.11 (range of 300ft for use within a building or house) and then to the cellular phone network. TI says that the chipset will be available to PDA manufacturers next month.
